A house located close to Colombo (Sri Lankan commercial capital) in the sub urban area of Kotte amongst a labyrinth of by lanes. The site was as typical as suburbia could get: a street with a rhythm of roof tiled, plastered brick boxes built to the limit of the road setbacks. The Client’s Requirement is a building with 4 accommodation unit with common living, dining and kitchen area. In the meantime, it needs to be elegant and highlighted from the surrounding neighborhood.

 

The key element of the design its shape and the material usage. The land is about 6 perches. Due to that reason project is designed in two boxes joined at the end by the staircase lobby. Each box is 3 storey height. The Two boxes placed on the site as in a “V” shape to enhance the elegant character of the whole building.

The material usage of the building has a special place in the design. Wire cut brick walls with concrete structure create a unique character for the building and it is highlighting the building from the surrounding neighborhood.

Ground floor of the building has all the common areas such as living, dining, kitchen and powder room. There is a separate access for the kitchen and maid’s room from the side of the building. First and Second floors has 4 spacious bedrooms with attached bathrooms and walk-in closets. Roof terrace is also a common gathering space.
